Yo! I have been so disconnected from TV in the past few weeks. And before I knew it, I had missed lots of episodes of the Tikambe TV Show. But thankfully, all the episodes are on YouTube so all I needed was 2 hours and I caught up with the rest of you.

EPISODE 3 – ALCOHOL ABUSE

Tikambe TV Show - Mag44

So let’s start with Episode 3, The guests were Mag44, a musician/producer  and Kakuwa Musheke, a Youth Development officer from the Ministry of Youth and Sport. The topic was Alcohol abuse. A young man called Moses, shared his encounter with peer pressure that led to alcohol abuse. He talked about how friends at his new school pressured him into drinking alcohol and getting a girlfriend even when he wasn’t ready. Mag44 identified with Moses’ story and mentioned how similar their stories were.

You guys, peer pressure never ends. Other people just have a way of making you feel bad about your decisions and lifestyle no matter how good or bad. You would think that it ends when you leave school but peer pressure is worse in the work place or the real world.

EPISODE 5 – DISCORDANT COUPLES

Tikambe TV Show -Discordant Couples

This episode’s guests were Radio Personality, Chinyota Msimuko (Chi), and Tilvis Ngosa, a youth facilitator. This episode’s story was from a guy called Alfred. Dude’s story was complicated! So dude is busy living his life when he decided to get himself a girlfriend. A few months later, the girl tells him she’s pregnant so he’s like alright. They start to live together for a while and then he decides to go to Namibia in search of work. When he comes back, he finds the baby already born. They decide to use condoms because she was still breastfeeding. Then one day mobile HIV testing providers go to their house and when they were both tested, Alfred was HIV negative and his girlfriend was HIV positive. She starts tripping and acting funny and later decides to go back to her sister’s place. Then after a few months she tells him that she’s pregnant again. Then she has a home delivery instead of going to the clinic. She doesn’t want the kids to be checked for HIV and she is in complete denial.

This is complicated y’all. I’ve lots of questions about this situation but I won’t get into it.  I’ve heard of stories of discordant couples before. They are always complicated. But as the guests mentioned, communication between the couple is very important. A couple has to face up to the responsibilities that come with having a love partner.

The whole point of this show is to start difficult conversations so I hope it will get more people discussing these issues. And I hope more people realise that they are not alone in the issues they face.

You can watch all these episodes on Youtube.
