Her Story title

When I was growing up I always thought I would have a bunch of equally successful girlfriends. We would meet at my house regularly and chat over glasses of wine on the kitchen table and plan to change the world. But reality turned out a little bit different and all because I don’t have kitchen table or kitchen large enough to fit one. But it’s okay though because Media 365 went and created a YouTube series called Her Story. And guess what it is, yep, a group of women gathered around a kitchen table discussing a whole lot of relevant issues. How cool is that?

Her Story

The show is produced by Catherine Phiri and she hosts it alongside Thandiwe Folotiya-Mwiko and Chilunga Puta-Dunham. Each episode focuses on a different topic and the length of each episode varies. The first episode focused on Personal Responsibility. Episode 2 tackled the ever interesting issue of Romance and Finance. The episode featured 2 guest hosts who brought in more views on the topic. I learned a lot from Episode 3 which focused onĀ  Zambia’s Referendum. This episode featured Eddie Mwitwa, the Vice President of the Law Association of Zambia. He explained what exactly people were going to be voting for.

Why I like this show

  • It is on YouTube. More people are watching content on the go. No one ever has the time to sit and watch TV that much anymore. This show being a YouTube series means that I can watch it at anytime I want.
  • The narrative is being driven by women for women. The show is a place where women come together and talk. And with the patriarchy system silencing women for years, it creates a much-needed platform where women can speak.
  • It is diverse. Who said that women can only talk about love, men and babies? Every social and political issue is a woman issue because it affects women. So I’m glad there is wide variety in the topics being discussed. Also the women on the show sometimes have opposing views which is necessary for a healthy debate. So you’re not watching women that are just following a script they agreed on. The views being expressed are their actual opinions.
