Last week I spent a day in Ibenga, a small town in Mpongwe district. It is a few minutes away from Luanshya on the Copperbelt province and about 4 to 5 hours away from Lusaka. I didn’t get to see the whole town of Ibenga. But the little I saw was interesting for me.
I spent the night at a little place called Kamutamba Guesthouse. They have cute little chalets that are K120 per night and the chalets each have a bunk bed so if you shared a room, that’s K60 per night. What?! I know right! That’s really affordable. There is a common kitchen where all the guests can access the Fridge, stove and TV.
When I took a walk I found a driveway leading to the St Theresa Mission Church. The trees were in bloom so there was purple, green and red colors like it was a painting or something. Then the church building is pink and all sorts of beautiful. It has interesting doors and windows. I loved it. I don’t think I’ve seen pink on a building before. One look at the church and i felt an urge to meditate. Unfortunately I couldn’t get inside because it was being used as an examination room.

Someone asked me if the place would make a good getaway. Well, it is a very small town. And there is nothing to do for tourists. But you can drive through on your way to Luanshya and stop to see the church. You can also spend the night at Kamutamba guesthouse or have a drink at a place called Abenansofu. And then you can move on to the next town.

I have been to Ibenga. Went there on a work assignment. I spent 2 nights at Kamutamba Guest House. The food was fresh and delicious. The rooms were good and clean. The church you talk of has a beautiful design I agree.
I’m glad Ibenga has a Guest House that has good rooms. It makes the stay there so much better.
